Zero waste

The approach Guide to zero waste
The Zero Waste movement that was so popular here in Saguenay this year (2018) is just starting to gain strength. Our trip started in Oak Harbor, Seattle, in 2010, we had a small garden, a few turkeys and a few rabbits, In an island rich in possibilities; With swild fruits (blackberries, pears, apples ...) and an ocean for fishing (salmon ... yum).
We began canning our fish and our food, small quantities not only to minimize our impact, but also for our budget and to reach our retirement goal before age 40.
No surplus packaging
During our stay there, we biked everywhere, we saved without worries, we picked and dried fruits, and if we bought it we do it in bulk (with a small garden and a small backyard, it was not big enough for our needs).
Our neighbors (mom and family) were great, they always help and share recipes.
Now that we live in Saguenay, Quebec, we always buy locally when we are not found in the gardens using local applications such as https://www.ulocal.co/fr/
and visit local farmers' markets.

Recycle, re-use, re-invent
One glorious day of shopping in a Fripe-price, I found a book on recycling-reinvention-reutilization, I don't remember the author, but what I do remember is how I wanted to continue to minimize my impact on the planet, for Martin (my boyfriend at the time), was all about money; Either way, zero waste consent was not just a list in a guide, it had become our way of life.
We make aprons with jeans, we donate old clothes and electronics, we exchange a lot of services and products with the local population, we recycle as much as possible, we reuse bottles of wine and reuse our cosmetic containers and we compose the rest.
we buy in bulk and make 90% of our own canning, we dry herbs, vegetables and fruits, we hunt and fish, make bread and dyes, ointments and cleaning products for the home.
Recycle, recycle, or recycle
We ask our customers to recycle or bring back our containers in order to reuse them ( Lip balm , Shea butter, scrub or clear wine bottles).
It is not easy and everyone can contribute in their own way, it is not practical to go cold, we all start at different stages, but little by little, you can also make a difference.
There is this Ca-va-ou? it tells you if you want to recycle an item or not, it is very convenient, you can always call the information number for styrofoam containers, packaging, food containers, etc.
for a little inspiration search the blogs of Bea Johnson who elevates the concept and made it so popular through his blog and his book " ZeroWaste Home " .
